As 2019 came to a close, I turned 60 and retired from a thirty-three year career as a management consultant. This prompted the logical question from family and friends: “what next?”
What’s next is a gap year. While I plan to return to work in various capacities, I look forward to 12 + months of doing some things that require significant time and calendar freedom. This includes climbing mountains, cross country skiing more than I have in decades, and sailing our boat beyond her usual New England cruising grounds
A number of you have asked how you can follow along. This blog is my answer. I’m not sure what form it will take, but I’ll give it a shot. If you are interested, please subscribe. This will alert you when I have posted, and also give me the pleasure of picturing who I am sharing my experiences with.
First up is climbing Aconcagua in Argentina. Then some cross county ski racing and back country skiing in the U.S. and Canada. From late March to early June I’ll be in Nepal climbing Mount Everest, which I have dreamed of doing since I was 10 years old. Then back home in early June to get ready for some extended sailing and other adventures.
I am intensely grateful to have this opportunity, deeply appreciative of my family’s love and support, and delighted by the interest you have shown.
Thank you all!
